Video Game Design
In Video Game Design, students spend two years exploring both the creative and technical sides of game development. The program is designed to meet you at your level, whether you’ve been building games for years or are just starting out. You’ll design characters, write storylines, create worlds, and develop gameplay systems, all while learning how to bring your ideas to life using professional industry tools. Students will also develop and produce their very own fully playable video game, drawing inspiration from their favorite titles and animation styles.
During the first year, students focus on the foundations of game design, world-building, character creation, storytelling, and core gameplay mechanics. They begin building their projects in Unity, learning essential skills such as scripting in C#, using physics and lighting systems, designing levels, and integrating 2D or 3D assets.
In the second year, students advance into high-end development tools such as Unreal Engine, where they explore visual scripting through Blueprints, create detailed environments, implement particle effects, and polish game visuals using engine-level controls and animation features. By the end of the program, students will have a professional-quality portfolio piece: a game they designed, built, tested, and refined from start to finish.
The Video Game Design program prepares students interested in pursuing a two- or four-year degree in Game Design, Computer Animation, Interactive Media, Computer Science, Digital Art, or Software Development. And with video game design roles expected to grow by 26% through 2030, this is a great time to dive into this fast-growing industry!
