Sports Medicine & Physical Therapy

Physical therapists and personal trainers have the opportunity to work with a variety of athletes, ranging from high schoolers to pro athletes depending on their choice of employment. They can also work with people who have been injured, have a health issue, or want to be healthier. They get to make a direct impact on their patients by training them, treating their injuries, and promoting healthy choices.

The Sports Medicine and Physical Therapy program is designed for students who wish to explore a career in the sports medicine field such as physical therapy, athletic training, exercise and fitness. Students will gain knowledge of functional anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, and exposure to frequently used skills of physical therapists, athletic trainers and fitness professionals.

Seniors will have an opportunity to complete various observational experiences in physical therapy clinics, with options in observing athletic trainers from their sending school, area physical therapy clinics and personal trainers. Successful completion of the senior curriculum will allow students to sit for the National Academy of Sports Medicine Certified Personal Trainer certification (NASM-CPT) with the opportunity to begin work as a personal trainer with industry-recognized credentials when passed.
