Nail Tech
Do you have an interest in cosmetology, running a business or just enjoy getting creative? Then explore the Nail Tech program at Hall-McCarter Education Center! Seniors have the opportunity to learn how to perform a variety of services, including manicures, pedicures, gel, acrylic and paraffin wax treatments while operating a salon that's open to the public. At the end of the program students can test for their state license and go straight to work after graduation, continue on to cosmetology school or work part-time will pursuing a college degree.
Fall Semester
From August to mid-October students study the following areas:
- Gel polish
- Acrylic nail sets
- Nail art design
- Basic and spa manicures
- Basic and spa pedicures
- Client communications
- Business marketing
- Customer service delivery
The salon opens towards the end of October and students begin taking on clients while continuing to cover the necessary areas of study for their license.
Spring Semester
The spring semester is focused on increasing skills with nail tech services through the salon. Some of the services students provide include:
- Basic and spa manicures
- Gel polish manicures and pedicures
- Full set acrylics
- Fill and back fill
- Nail dip manicure
- Nail dip with extension
- Basic and spa pedicures
- Polish changes
- Nail repair
- Nail art
- Acrylic removal
- Paraffin wax treatment
Get licensed as a nail technician and jumpstart your career!
Students in the Nail Tech program will complete 400 contact hours with clients and can qualify to get licensed by the state of Missouri. This license enables students to work as a nail technician at a variety of venues, including beauty salons, spas, resorts and even operate their own business.
Licensing Requirements
The state of Missouri maintains high standards for the cosmetology industry. The following training and skills will be covered in the one-year program to ensure students are prepared for the state test:
- Maincuring, hand and arm massage, and treatment of nails: 220 hours
- Salesmanship and shop management: 20 hours
- Sanitation and sterilization: 20 hours
- Anatomy: 10 hours
- State law: 10 hours
- Chemical use: 40 hours
- Additional hours: 80 hours
Students must be 18 years of age or older at the time of testing in order to qualify.
Cost
Course Kit: $335.00
The course kit includes tools for performing manicures, pedicures and other nail services. Students will keep the kit and be able to use it after graduation.
Application Fee: $25.00
Students will pay for their application fee if they choose to test for the nail technician license.
The testing fee of $160.00 will be covered by the CTC.

Meet Mrs. Lola Webb
Miss Lola has over 20 years of experience in the cosmetology industry. Not only does she love teaching the next generation of cosmetologists, but she also stays busy working for a local salon doing nail and hair services. When she's not creating beautiful nail art designs, she's spending time with her loving family.
