Health Science Accelerated

Do you have an interest in the medical field? Do you like helping others? Then Health Science Accelerated might be just the program for you! This one-year, accelerated nursing-focused program for seniors provides students with critical training in patient care, anatomy and physiology. Our students have the opportunity to earn college credit and their Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA). The clinical rotations for the CNA give our students the chance to actually work directly with patients and healthcare professionals, not just observe. The program is housed at the Blue Springs Freshman Center, soon to be the Blue Springs Career & Innovation Center.

In addition to nursing our students pursue careers in areas like physical therapy, dentistry, surgery, optometry and pediatrics.

Fall Semester

Students receive training in patient care, including:

  • CPR
  • First aid
  • Infection control
  • Vital signs
  • Range of motion exercises
  • Healthcare law
  • Anatomy and physiology
  • Hygiene care, including hair and nail care

Spring Semester

In the spring students spend over 100 hours completing clinical rotations in the field. Students will rotate between 6 and 8 facilities in Indepenence and Blue Springs and work alongside doctors and nurses while working directly with geriatric patients. These hours count towards the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA).
