Agriculture & Animal Science

Welcome to Agriculture Productions! As Ms. Preslar likes to say, you don't have to have been born or raised on a farm to be a part of her class. Students from all walks of life have enjoyed learning about the numerous college and career opportunities in this industry!

In addition to the classroom and adjoining lab space, the Agriculture Production program boasts a 6,000-square foot greenhouse. This unique environment is home to the annual Poinsettia Sale that takes place every holiday season, as well as the annual Spring Plant Sale, which includes vegetable plants, flowers and greenery.

But Agriculture Productions isn't just about growing plants! Students will learn everything from using virtual software to sumulate landscape designs, grow, market and sell greenhouse plants, and safely operate equipment like tractors, mowers and tillers.

Fort Osage

Fort Osage students have the option of enrolling in 50-minute classes in multiple areas, including:

Agricultural Science 1: This course includes an overview of multiple areas of the agriculture industry, including animal science, agricultural mechanics, career exploration, leadership and personal development and supervised agriculturla experience.
Agricultural Science 2: This course includes content in plant and crop science, soils, entomology, horticulture, forestry, and additional instruction in agricultural mechanics, career development, leadership and supervised agricultural experience.
Animal Science: This fall semester section includes study on animal production, breeding, animal health and biotechnology.
Equine Science: This spring semester section is brand new for the 2018-2019 school year! Areas of study will include genetics and reproduction, equipment and facilitieis, horse psychology and training methods.
Agribusiness Sales, Marketing & Management: This spring semester section includes human relations, careers in selling and engaged marketing. Career exploration is an integral part of this course!
Agriculture Productions-Mechanics: This year-long section will teach students various metal fabrication techniques used in today's agricultural environment. Students will create a project using ARC and MIG welders, oxy-acetylene torches and plasma-cutting equipment along with an assortment of hand tools. Projects could include benches, shelving units, hay rings and small trailers.
Agriculture Productions-Greenhouse: Plant science and horticulture production will include pest and disease control, basic plant identifiction and landscape design techniques.

Blue Springs & Blue Springs South

This is a two-year program offered only for our P.M. session (11:45 a.m.-1:50 p.m.). First-year seniors can also enroll.

Students from our four out-of-district sending schools will explore multiple topics throughout the year. Some sections are covered year-long, while others are taught in either the fall or spring semester.

Animal Science: This fall semester section includes study on animal production, breeding, animal health and biotechnology.

Grain Valley & Oak Grove
